Health Unit Asking Council To Look At Bylaw

Dryden Council is being asked to consider some sort of smoke free outdoor spaces bylaw.
A youth group representing the Northwestern Health Unit made the request Monday night, noting they aren’t trying to ban smoking in all public places in Dryden.
Youth Volunteer Reagan Neil says they are hoping Council looks at a bylaw that includes spaces where kids frequent, such as public parks and playgrounds.
Neil says their goal is to help youth and make things better for local kids.
Neil adds a bylaw would also eliminate the sight of used cigarette butts at City parks and playgrounds.
Some jurisdictions have or are in the process of implementing a stricter ban that includes patios, streets and all other public places.
Council offered no hints whether or not it will look at such a bylaw.
