Health Unit Concerned With Increase In COVID Cases

The Northwestern Health Unit says it’s notice a significant rise in COVID-19 case numbers in the past couple of weeks.

The seven day positivity rates stands at 17.3 percent, up from 12.8 percent last week.

There are also 315 active high risk cases, an increase from 236 last week and 135 the week before.

The Health Unit says while most of the cases are on first nations in the Sioux Lookout Health Hub, the increase and related impacts are being felt in many communities in the region.

Dr. Kit Young Hoon says cases they are seeing are showing more severe infection, leading to an increase in hospitalizations.

She encourages masking indoors, enhanced hand hygiene and keeping up to date with vaccinations.
