Health Unit Introduces Affordable Dental Program

The Northwestern Health Unit is teaming up with Green Shield Canada to help treat adults with dental problems.

The Green Door project is providing $360,000 over three years to help people who are unable to pay for dental care.

David Willows from Green Shield says they’ve been working on this project for four years.

“We felt that oral health care was an under-reported, under-talked about the issue in Canada,” says Willows, “That’s where we went into some deep research over a couple of years. From that emerged this picture of how we didn’t realize 33 per cent of Canadians don’t have access (to dental care) at all.”

The Health Unit says the program is for anyone between the ages of 18 and 64 years of age and who doesn’t have dental insurance coverage.
