Provincial funding for a key Northwestern Health Unit program.
The Health Unit is receiving $15,000 in one-time funding to expand its smoking cessation program.
The money will be used to purchase Nicotine Replacement Therapy for priority populations in the region.
Counselling appointments will be set up and staff from Dryden, Red Lake and Kenora will deliver the program.
The Health Unit also plans to review its options of continuing the program after funding has stopped.
Meantime, officials have also been notified of other allocations.
The Needle Exchange program is receiving an increase of more than $18,000, funding for the Healthy Smiles program is up $6,200 and the Unorganized grant jumped up by $414,000.
The most significant increases were in the Smoke Free Ontario program to help the Health Unit enforce the new Electronic Cigarettes Act.
In total, the Health Unit is receiving in excess of $91,000 thanks to three separate grants.
