The Northwestern Health Unit is calling for smoke-free policies in all multi-unit housing buildings.
Officials say there are benefits to both tenants and landlords who ask people to take their smoking outside.
The public health agency says implementing a smoke free policy will help reduce the risk of fire, make it safer for residents and is cheaper to renovate a smoke-free apartment than one that has been smoked in.
