Health Unit Raises Municipal Levy

Communities throughout the Region will have to pay more to keep the Northwestern Health Unit in business.

The municipal levy has been hiked a whopping 36.05%, meaning a $100,000 increase for the City of Dryden.

Councilor Brian Collins says municipalities have to foot more of the public health bill each year, which puts an unnecessary burden on taxpayers.

Collins says that people should be paying the same for public health province wide and receiving the same services, which is not currently happening.

Dryden Councilors hope to raise the issue at next month’s Kenora District Municipal Association meeting in Sioux Lookout.
