The Northwestern Health Unit says it wants to focus on chronic disease in its new strategic plan.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jim Arthurs says they are just putting the finishing touches on the strat plan and will unveil it in a month or so.
He says diseases like diabetes are preventable, and cost the health care system millions of dollars.
Arthurs says despite all the money spent on diabetes programs, the incidence rate of the disease continues to rise in northwestern Ontario.
