Health Unit Provides COVID-19 Update

The Northwestern Health Unit says most of the new cases of COVID-19 in the region were acquired by travel.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon provided an update Tuesday.

“Two recent cases in the Kenora area. Both of those cases are not linked together but interestingly both of those cases are contacts of a known case outside of the region. So this is associated with travel.

She says the three recent cases in the Sioux Lookout area are connected.

They are being handled by the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority.

Dr. Kit Young Hoon notes they don’t know how those cases came about right now.

There are no new cases reported Wednesday and five are listed as active.

The Thunder Bay District reported eight new cases Tuesday.

That brings the total number of active cases in that region to 23.

Ontario is reporting 1,426 cases of COVID-19 Wednesday.

That sets a new record and marks the sixth straight day in which the daily case count has hit quadruple digits.
