Hefty Fine Against Two Bait Dealers

A $6,500 fine has been handed down against two Fort Frances commercial bait dealers.

Margitta McLeod and Luc Levesque pleaded guilty and were each fined $3,000 for illegally importing live leeches into Ontario.

Levesque was also fined $500 for not maintaining a commercial bait licence log book, as is required by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

The fines stem from a June, 2015 inspection at Fort Frances Customs where two bags of live leeches weighing 20-kilograms were discovered.

Inspectors discovered the leeches were purchased in Orr, Minnesota and were being illegally imported for the intended sale at Anglers Pro Shop in Nestor Falls.
