Hefty Fine For Public School Board

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has been given 30 days to pay $15,000 in fines issued by the Ministry of the Environment.
The province imposed the fines for violations under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
The MOE says the public school board failed to ensure water at the school in Upsala was being property treated, and also failed to ensure the water system was being operated by trained, certified personnel.
The Board was also fined for failing to report an adverse water test at the school in Savant Lake.
A school board official says it corrected the problems shortly after finding out about them, but the MOE still decided to proceed with the fines.
The board has been fined $12,000 for operating a drinking water system contrary to the Safe Drinking Water Act and also has to pay a $3,000 victim surcharge fee.
