The Nishnawbe Aski Nation has declared a state of emergency in New Osnaburgh First Nation.
The move comes as the area community continues to mourn the loss of four people in a fatal house fire.
NAN Deputy Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler says leadership and front-line workers are simply overwhelmed and require additional support and relief.
Fiddler believes the situation will get worse if the provincial and federal governments don’t provide assistance.
He adds there’s been an increase in substance abuse, medical and mental health issues due to unresolved grief and trauma.
A mother, her two young daughters and her nephew perished on February 13th after a fire broke out in the family home in the early morning hours.
