Children often have a hard time understanding tragic incidents like the one in Ottawa this week and parents are often faced with a lot of questions.
Child psychologist Dr. Ken Ekstrand says parents need to tailor their approach to the maturity and temper of the individual child.
Dr. Ekstrand says parents need to reassure kids that Canada is one of the safest places in the world.
He also suggests keeping the daily return to help kids feel safe and comfortable.
