The OPP say they are investigationg a fatal collision just east of Ignace.
The Trans-Canada was closed shortly before 1:30 this afternoon.
Northwest EMS was dispatched along with fire crews after a collision between two vehicles.
Despite life-saving efforts, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another person was taken to hospital by ambulance to be treated for serious injuries.
Highway 17 remains closed between Ignace and Shabaqua Corners while an OPP continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
