Hospital meeting draws a crowd

It was standing room only at a town hall meeting Wednesday
night in Kenora about Lake of the Woods District Hospital’s
growing deficit.

A couple of hundred people showed up to express concern about administration’s plans to cut nursing jobs.

Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Marc Belcaen says
more long term care beds in Dryden and Red Lake has reduced the need for chronic care beds in Kenora.

He says the hospital only has an occupancy rate of 58 percent, and they simply don’t need as many nurses as they used to.

The hospital board has agreed to review its decision to cut nursing jobs at its next meeting.
