NDP Leader Howard Hampton says the $220-million Provincial aid
package will help sawmills and that’s about it.
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP says the announcement falls short of what’s
needed in the North.
Hampton says companies aren’t going to change their mind about
plants slated for closure because of the high cost of energy.
Hampton says paper mills should not be paying 8-cents per kilowatt/hour
for their electricity when it costs 2-cents to produce energy in the North.
Premier McGuinty says the Province is still working with companies to
see how they can help them reduce their energy costs.
