NDP Natural Resources Critic and Kenora–Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton is slamming the McGuinty Liberal Government for doing nothing to stop the collapse of the saw mill industry in Northern Ontario.
Hampton posed the question “How bad does it have to get in the north before the Premier lifts a finger to help hard-pressed saw mill workers?”
The latest casualty of the forestry crisis is the Ontario Lumber Manufacturers’ Association (OMLA).
Over 80% of its members’ production capacity has been shuttered for more than two years.
Given the circumstances, the OMLA has no choice but to permanently close its operations.
