Faced with growing criticism over the 20-year Liberal energy plan, Premier Dalton McGuinty is asking the opposition to unveil their strategies.
The Government says hydro rates will go up 3.5% a year under its $87 billion long term energy plan, which includes $33 billion for nukes and billions more for green energy projects.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton says the McGuinty Government seems to believe that people have a bottomless wallet and takes great pride in driving people’s electricity rates through the roof.
The NDP members says his party’s plan is simple…follow Manitoba’s lead!!!
Hampton says the Manitoba Government offers low-interest loans that allows homeowners to install high efficient natural gas furnaces and energy efficient appliances and insulation.
Hampton adds Manitoba charges 6-cents-a-kilowatt-hour for wind power.
He points out that Ontario’s rate is a minimum 13-cents-a-kilowatt-hour.
