Health Minister Deb Matthews says she will find out why the agency responsible for public buildings is doubling the rent at Ignace’s small health clinic.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton calls the rent-hike of $100,000 a year at the Mary Berglund Health Centre “absurd,” and would force the clinic to cut front-line staff.
If the increase goes through, rent will balloon to about $200,000 a year.
The Health Centre has had its budget frozen.
Ontario Realty Corporation officials say they are looking into the issue.
