A good indication of why voter turnout spiked over 14% in the Kenora riding in Monday’s election.
The aboriginal vote went up 69% compared to the 2011 federal vote.
More than 6,600 people cast a ballot in the 33 First Nations that reported their numbers.
Interest was the highest in Pikangikum, with a 273% increase as well as Lac Seul at 242%.
Huge gains were also made in Fort Severn, Big Trout Lake, Kasabonika Lake, Saugeen, Deer Lake, Wabaseemoong, Grassy Narrows, Dalles, Washagamis Bay, Rat Portage and Whitefish Bay.
