The Dryden Ice Dogs ended their season on a winning note, 5-4 over the Golden Hawks, with a last minute goal from Jordan Chong.
The Dogs opened strong with two goals in the first two minutes – the first from Jamie Davis, the second from Cody Mosbeck. The Hawks fired back two of their own to end the first period in a 2-2 tie.
One goal per team left it tied at 3 after 40 minutes, Kyle Schroeder notching the 2nd period goal at 11:47.
The Ice Dogs opened scoring in the 3rd, with Shawn Bassingthwaite putting the Dogs ahead 4-3 at the 6:43 mark. The Hawks responded at 9:44 to tie things back up. In a HUGE play in the final minute, Jordan Chong brought the Dog Pound to it’s feet with the game winner at 19:10 of the final period.
The win means the Ice Dogs finished the season at .500, their goal going into tonight’s game.
The SIJHL moves into playoff mode next week, and the Ice Dogs will open the semi-finals on the road, playing the Fort Frances Borderland Thunder Thursday night at 7:30. CKDR will have the game live, immediately following Rotary Radio Bingo.
