Ice Dogs Win Two On The Road

The Dryden Ice Dogs are one win away from a return to the Bill Salonen Cup after a pair of playoff wins over the Borderland Thunder in Fort Frances this weekend. The Dogs skated out of Borderland with at 6-3 win Friday and a 4-2 victory Saturday to take a 3-1 series lead in the best of seven semi finals. On Friday the Ice Dogs scored three times in the second frame to give them a three goal cushion which held up through the final 20. Jordan Lamarche scored the eventual winner midway through the second while Mike McIntyre potted two. Rheal Assie, Joel Poshtar and Konrad Bruetsch addded singles. Liam Johnston faces 36 shots in the win.
Saturday night the Ice Dogs continued their strong play with a 4-2 win. Dryden led by 2 after a pair of goals late in the first and a single early in the second including Joel Poshtar’s eventual winner at the 6:19 mark of the second. Matt Tryhuba scored the insurance marker midway through the third while Mike McIntyre and Merlyn Smith also chipped in with goals. Liam Johnston faced 43 Thunder shots in his second win in as many nights. The Ice Dogs will look to wrap up the series Tuesday night as they host the Thunder at 7:30 p.m. In other SIJHL semi final action the Fort William First Nations North Stars advanced to the league finals after sweeping the Thunder Bay Bulldogs 4 game to none The Stars scored wins of 7-3 and 7-0 Friday and Saturday in Thunder Bay to finish off the series.
