Tough times for the Ignace Public Library.
The Library is no longer operating on a normal schedule and has reduced its hours of operation to about 4-hours a week from now until December.
Tough financial times are being blamed by Library Board Chair Sherrill Musclow.
Musclow says their budget was overspent by mid year.
She blames the late passing of the town budget and increased expenses.
Musclow says Council cut its funding by $5,000 and pleas for more operating funds fell on deaf ears.
She adds various grants have also not come in.
She says they hope to see more money next year to get things back to normal.
The timing of the announcement at the Ignace Public Library couldn’t come at a worse time.
The ‘Friends of the Igance Public Library’ has dissolved.
The group provided magazine subscriptions and also allowed the Library to piggy back on its lottery licence.
The Library no longer has the ability to hold fundraisers and hand out charitable receipts.
