Ignace man facing firearm-related charges for Fort Frances offence

The Rainy River District OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) have arrested a 19-year-old from Ignace, who is now facing several charges.

The police say they responded to a weapons call at a local business in Fort Frances after a gun was discovered, and were able to identify and arrest the owner of the weapon.

The accused is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition (x2)
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition (x2)
  • Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to probation order (x2)
  • Failure to comply with release order other than to attend court

The suspect has been held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances.
