The Town of Ignace is in shock after staff at the Bowater Sawmill
arrived to work this morning to learn that the Mill has been shutdown.
The closure is for an indefinite period of time with no planned
restart date and it effects 29-staff and 20-contractors.
Company Spokesperson Georges Cabana says current market conditions
and low quota levels under the Canada-U.S. softwood lumber deal are to blame.
Cabana says Bowater regrets the decision, especially this close to Christmas,
but notes the quota allocation takes effect January 1st.
