Input Sought On Transmission Line To Pickle Lake

A provincial assessment is in motion for a new transmission line to Pickle Lake.
The main goal is to provide the required power for First Nations communties that use diesel generation.
An open house was held yesterday in Dryden, and Adele Faubert of Goldcorp Musselwhite says the project has two phases.
Faubert says phase one is getting the 230kV line up to Pickle Lake, and phase two is going north of Pickle Lake to remote communities who use diesel generation.
Faubert says many First Nations can’t even build homes, because their current diesel generators are maxed out.
The assessment is looking at environmental concerns, social-economic implications to the neighbours of the transmission line and any potential conflict with nearbye camps, communities and infrastructure.
The proposed line will extend roughly 300-kilometres from an existing transmission line along the TransCanada Highway to Pickle Lake.
Addtional open houses are planned for:
Ignace-Tuesday October 23rd, Silver Tops Senior’s Centre, 5-8:30
Sioux Lookout-Wednesday October 24th, Centennial Centre, 4:30-8:00
Pickle Lake-Thursday October 25th, Community Hall, 4:30-8:00.
