Inquest Probes Harper Death In Thunder Bay

A city inquest is back in full gear looking into the deaths of seven First Nation students in Thunder Bay. The 2007 drinking death of Robyn Harper remained the focus of Tuesday testimony.

Her friend and relative Katie Anishinabie, said Harper wasn’t much of a drinker and felt Robyn chose to use alcohol so she could make friends and fit in at Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School.

Also testifying Tuesday were Harper’s mother Tina, who suggested Robyn had a hard time adjusting to life in the city compared to Keewaywin. Harper also testified she received very little information from officials about her daughter’s death in 2007.

Also on the stand was Chris Kakagamic, an education coordinator at their home in Keewaywin First Nation and Alma Hastings who worked for DFC arranging rides home for students who were out for the night in Thunder Bay. She was working the night of Harper’s death.
