Investment Made To End Boil Water Advisories

The federal government is out with funding to end long-term drinking water advisories in eight Grand Council Treaty #3 communities.

More than $1.2-million has been earmarked for water treatment plant upgrades and water feasibility studies.

Kenora MP Bob Nault says Friday’s announcement is another step in the right direction as they work to ensure that all First Nations have access to clean and safe drinking water.

Nault notes it’s their goal to eliminate all long-term drinking water advisories by March 2021.

Communities receiving funding include Wabauskang, Anishinabe of Wauzhushk Onigum, Grassy Narrows, Northwest Angle #33, Northwest Angle #37, Shoal Lake #40, Washagamis Bay, and Bimose Water Hub.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennett was on hand for the announcement. (Staff Photo)
