It Appears Rocks Will Slide for the Next 5 Years

The Non-Profit Dryden District Curling Club has been formed and its looking good that the rocks will slide January 3rd.
About 80 to 90 people attended the public meeting last night to hear details of the rental agreement between the Club and Eagles Landing.
The deal will cost the Club $27,000 for ice rental, electricity and a small portion of municipal taxes from January 1st to April 1st.
A team of volunteers with the newly formed Club will also be responsible for ice installation, maintenance and the removal of ice.
Eagles Landing will be responsible for liability and insurance and to ensure curling stay’s in Dryden for the next 5 years.
The formation of the DDCC also allows for fundraising and grants to offset the cost of curling.
The Club has also asked the City to consider allocation $10,000 a year in the Municipal budget for operations.
The deal hinges on the number of curlers and involves the use of a minimum of 4 sheets.
Both sides see it as a win-win situation.
The President of the newly formed Dryden District Curling Club says the future of the sport now depends on community support.
Brian Meadows says they need 40 mens and womens teams and 16 mixed teams to cover their rental agreement with Eagles Landing.
Meadows is hoping for all of the registrations before December 20th.
The Club is also seeking volunteer support for ice preperation and installation.
Teams will be responsible for pebbling and cleaning the ice.
Curling is tentatively scheduled to run January 3rd to April 1st and will operate for the next 5 years.
The Club has obtained $12,000 from the Gas Gang to reconfigure the ice from 8 to a minimum of 4 sheets and to cover the start up costs of the ice plant.
