It is will great sadness that we announce the passing Jack Miller Sr. at the age 83 of Vermilion Bay, who passed away at the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
Jack was born in 1930 in Saskatchewan to Mary & Joseph Miller. He grew up in a large family and worked on the farm. Jack moved to the Rainy River district in the Dirty Thirties. He started working in the bush camps at the age 14. He worked various jobs until 1959 when he started with the Rainy River Board of Education, where he worked until his retirement.
He met and married Jean Miller in 1954 & they raised their children in Fort Frances.
Jack was a good man that could work, play and hunt with the best of them. He spent many days hunting with hounds and fishing on Rainy Lake. A lot of tales will be told for years to come by all his friends young and old.
He was a man that could be counted on for anything; from building houses to taking kids fishing.
His family was most important to him and they will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife Jean Miller and their children; Jack (Pam), Diana (Wayne) Cross, Sterling (Terry), Jim, Kathy (Dion) McKenzie, daughter-in-law Debbie Miller. Grandchildren; Rachel, Kerri, Rebecca, Matthew, Sarah, James, Charles, Katlyn, Scotlynn, Lillian, and two great grandchildren Cameron and Tessa. He was predeceased by his son Scott in 1982.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 1st, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances with Reverend Georgina Connor officiating. Interment of ashes will be at a later date.
