January a “normal” cold month

The month of January may have seemed very cold, but it was actually pretty average.

Even though there was a cold snap in the middle of the month, the daily mean temperature was about a half a degree abover normal.

It was -17.6 compared to -18.2, which is the average.

The coldest day last month was January 23rd, when the Dryden Airport registered a temperature of -37.0 degrees.

That’s still not a cold as the coldest day in January, which was way back in 1949, when the thermometer hit -46.1.

In terms of snow, it was a very dry month with just 8.1 millimeters of precipitation.

The Dryden area typically gets in the range of 27.5 centimeters in January.
