Canada’s Employment minister is defending his government’s crackdown of the temporary
foreign worker program.
Jason Kenney was in Kenora today to talk with aboriginal and business leaders about skills training.
He feels we should be training unemployed people at home instead of bringing in workers
for the hospitality industry.
Kenney says the temporary foreign worker program was recently tightened up, to make sure it’s a lasting limited resort for employers.
He says Canada wants to make sure Canadian employers are going to their local unemployed workers first.
Kenney believes aboriginal workers will be key to staffing some of the new mines being started
up across northwestern Ontario in the years ahead.
