It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of a much loved husband, father, brother, godfather, uncle, and friend John Aguiar.
John passed away December 22, 2012 surrounded by his family at the Dryden Regional Health Centre after a three and a half year long and hard battle with cancer. John was born to his predeceased mother and father, Manuel and Maria Aguiar, January 3, 1951 on the island of Sao Miguel in the Acores, Portugal. He spent his child and adolescent years enjoying the beautiful island with his family and siblings. Once his father moved to Canada, he wanted to do the same. John came to Canada September 1, 1961 where he attempted to finish his schooling but decided to work in the mill instead. John decided it was time to find the love of his life and when he saw a photo of this beautiful young lady, he already knew his life would change forever. They arranged a meeting in Dryden and when John saw Adriana walk off that plane, he said that is my wife. John and Adriana were married very young on July 10, 1970. They then tried for many years to start a family and finally had success on February 28, 1988 when their daughter Victoria was born.
John is survived by four siblings. The oldest Manuel Aguiar and his wife Fatima, Joe Aguiar and his wife Claire, Maria Carvalho and her husband Al, and Sheila Miranda and her husband Doug. He is also survived by his future grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
John enjoyed much of his time doing things around the house, gardening, fishing (both on his boat and ice fishing either right on the ice or in his ice shack), golfing, camping with his siblings, snow machining, and of course watching his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs which no matter what anyone said to him, he would never change teams. He also spent a lot of his time helping others, as he was born with a heart of gold. He was always there when you needed him and never hesitated doing anything for anyone. John was a man of his faith and was a member of the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church where he also participated in the choir.
A Funeral Service to celebrate the life of John Aguiar was held Thursday, December 27th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Alan Campeau officiating. Prayers were held Wednesday, December 26th at 7:00 p.m. in the Moffat Chapel of Stevens Funeral Homes.
If friends desire, donations may be made to the DRHC or Canadian Cancer Society through the Stevens Funeral Homes P.O. Box 412, Dryden ON P8N 2Z1. Condolences may be posted at www.stevensfuneralhomes.ca
