John Manchulenko, aged 96, passed away peacefully at Princess Court on Thursday, November 14, 2013.
He was born in LaRivere Manitoba December 16, 1916. His family moved to Methvin, Manitoba in 1921. When his father passed away in 1930, the family moved to Winnipeg. He finished his education there and did odd jobs around the city. In 1934 he and his brother Bill moved to Upsala, Ontario. They worked on highway construction and a local tourist hunting camp in the summer and fall and in logging camps in the winter.
In 1938, he helped his brother bill start a hunting and fishing lodge south of Martin, Ontario. Due to the war, they closed the lodge in 1941.
He married Mary Kolisnyk in 1940 and they lived in Winnipeg until 1946. The family moved back to Upsala in 1946 and there he worked on highway construction in the summer and logging in the winter.
In 1951, John and Mary started a tourist camp, Breezy Point, just east of Ignace. In 1952, they moved to Ignace and lived there for the next 50 years. After running the tourist camp for 45 years, they sold it and retired in 1996.
In 2003 they moved to a retirement home in Dryden. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary in 2010, his mother, father, 3 sisters, 2 brothers and his only grandson, Curtis. He is survived by son George (Cheryl) of Ignace, daughter Gail Molloy (Bob) of Dryden, 3 granddaughters: Sherri-Dawn (Earl) Gillis, Shannon, and Kristen (Darrin) Barrett, 4 great grandchildren: Brett, Brody, Cole and Shayla.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 18th at from 6 pm to 7 pm at Dryden Community Funeral Home with Prayers at 7 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday November19th, 2013 at 10 am with Visitation from 9 am to 10 am at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Ignace with Father Al Campeau officiating.
Interment to follow at the Ignace Cemetery.
He’s finally gone to join Mary.
