Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty says the decision to scrap the long-form census was short-sighted.
Debate was held in the House of Commons this week on an opposition motion to have the form reinstated.
Rafferty stressed the information collected aids in the work of many groups.
The NDP member says the long-form census is also vital in good policy-making decisions.
