Juel Walter Olson

Juel Olson, 78 years of age, passed away in the Dryden Regional Health Centre on Friday, February 29th, 2008, with his family at his side. Juel was born in Valhalla Centre, Alberta, son of Walter and Anna Olson. At an early age Juel worked on the steamships in Port Arthur, (Thunder Bay), then worked in the Converting Department of the Dryden Mill for 40 years until his retirement at 60 years of age. Juel loved life. He loved to be outdoors, and enjoyed spending time with his wife and family at the cabin, fishing, camping, hunting, and enjoying nature in general. One of his favorite past times in recent years was woodcarving, and he took great care in fashioning his wooden projects to perfection. Juel loved to have fun, and his hearty laugh was contagious. Juel had many friends he loved to be with. He met daily with his coffee club “buds” at McDonald’s. He was a founding member of the Dryden Full Gospel Church; he was passionate in his faith, and demonstrated his beliefs in how he lived his life. He was a member of The Gideons International since 1974, and worked diligently with the Alzheimer’s Association. Juel is survived by his loving wife Doreen of 56 years, children Debbie (John) Sheppard, Cathy (Doug) Bullock, Gary (Cindy) Olson, and Lisa (Lorrie) Kerekes, , his 8 grandchildren, Jason (Jenn) Sheppard, Juel Sheppard, Dori (Rett) Bullock, Marla Bullock, Bethany Bullock, Emily Bullock (Stephen), Becky (Nick) Fediuk, and Aaron (Raelene) Olson. Juel was also blessed with 4 wonderful great-grandchildren whom he loved to laugh and play with. They affectionately knew him as “Poppi”. His brothers Matt Olson and Allen (Mary) Olson, as well as his sisters Marie Olson, and Gloria (Henry) Morise also survive him. Other surviving members of the family include his Uncle Talbert and Aunt Emily Severson, brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. The memorial service to celebrate the life of the late Juel Olson will be held at the Full Gospel Church, Dryden, Ontario, Tuesday March 4th, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Al Huckabay, and Pastor Velma Henderson officiating.
