A Dryden High School student has become the first person in northwestern Ontario to win the Amber Booth award for excellence in Health and Safety.
Justin Jordens was recognized for his life saving efforts during an incident at Blue Lake park back in July.
Jordens quickly acted in an emergency situation and performed first aid on an individual and he’s encouraging others to undergo first aid training.
The patient in distress succumbed to his condition but Jordens training and instincts were applied expertly in the situation.
Jordens says people should get involved in the first aid program with the Red Cross, because similar incidents can happen anywhere and at anytime.
He also walked away with a $500 bursary.
Jordens says he his hoping to pursue a career in medicine.
