4-members of the Fly-In Northern Community of KI or Big Trout Lake
First Nation have completed a 2,100 kilometre walk to Queen’s Park in
Toronto.
The group left Pickle Lake May 9th to protest the ongoing mining
dispute between the First Nation and Platinex.
Back in February, the mining company was stopped from building a mine
on what is beleived to be aboriginal land.
Since that time, both sides have been locked in a bitter power struggle.
Platinex has filed a $10-billion lawsuit against the community
and the First Nation has launched a lawsuit challenging the Ontario Mining
Act.
The issue will be discussed during 2-days of injunction hearings starting Thursday in Thunder Bay.
