Kakegamic trial almost over

The jury will begin deliberations this afternoon in the first degree murder trial of 27 year old James Kakegamic.

Kakegamic was arrested almost three years ago in connection with the death of 16 year old Jocelyn Chippy McDonald in Kenora.

The judge hearing the case is presenting his final instructions to the jury today.

Justice Irwin Stach says in order to be found guilty of first degree murder, the jury has to find beyond a reasonable doubt that Kakegamic not only unlawfully
killed the 16 year old girl, but also sexually assaulted her, or tried to sexually assault her.

The trial has been going on for the past five weeks.
