Katharina (Kathy) Vogel

April 5, 1925 – January 11, 2004

With sad hearts, the family of Kathy Vogel announces her passing on Sunday, January 11, 2004 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at the DRHC. She was predeceased by her parents, one sister and her beloved husband Hermann. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Susann (Len) Becker, Sons Hermann (Claudia) Vogel, Paul (Dawn) Vogel. Seven grandchildren Nancy (Axel) Johnson, Laurie Becker (Tony Curci), Jennifer Vogel, Hermann Vogel, Alexandra Vogel, Hali-Anne Vogel and Dayna Vogel. Three greatgrandchildren Cassidy Johnson, Alexa Curci and Axel Johnson. Also left to remember her are 5 sisters and 1 brother in Switzerland and numerous relatives and friends both in Switzerland and Canada. Kathy was born in Altstatten, Switzerland on April 5, 1925 and grew up in a family of 8 children. She married her husband, Hermann, on Oct 6, 1951 and together they had 3 children. On March 19, 1960 the family emigrated to Canada and settled in Cambridge, ON. Kathy and Hermann worked alongside farming for 9 years on their dairy farm in Ayr, ON. The family moved to Dryden in 1969 and continued to farm until 1981. They then acquired Route Lake Lodge and greatly enjoyed tourist outfitting until their retirement in 1991. Kathy’s main focus was always her family. She was a seamstress by trade and enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren. She took pride in her home and spent many hours in her beautiful gardens and flowerbeds. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and a great friend. She set a good example for us all and she will be greatly missed and forever loved and remembered for the very special person she was. Our father was the soul of our family but our mother was always the heart – Together forever.
