KCDSB Waiting For Rapid Tests But Have PPE

The Kenora Catholic District School Board, which oversees operations at St. John School in Red Lake, says it has the personal protection equipment (PPE) promised to them by the Ministry of Education.

Superintendent of Business Services Alison Smith says they will have to wait a few days until rapid test kits are available though.

“We received the N95 masks already and those are already at all the schools,” explains Smith.

“The rapid tests we should be receiving towards the end of this week or early next week and then those will be sent out to the schools as soon as we get them.”

Minister of Education Stephen Lecce says there will be two tests available initially for all the students and staff at the schools.

Smith says they should have lots of PPE available for everyone.

“With the N95 masks, if staff chooses to wear them, there is enough for two per person per day, so just in case there is spoilage. So there are sufficient masks available and we also do have additional face shields and or eye protection.”

Smith says they also have enhanced cleaning protocols in place for the re-start of school next week.
