It took 6-months, 4-budget’s and another 5-hours of debate Thursday, but the Kenora District Services Board has finally agreed on an acceptable 2010 budget.
After being instructed in March to trim the budget by 1%, staff came back with a document which included significant cuts in Child Care, Ontario Works, Social Housing and Land Ambulance.
The document included the closure of the Nestor Falls Land Ambulance Base and a cut in service in Sioux Lookout.
Municipal Leaders absorbed the sobering document and voted against it.
They came back with a list of additions which led to the approval of the $50.5-million budget.
The plan will cost Municipalities $14.27-million.
If Board members had approved the March 18th budget, communities would have had to shell out roughly $200,000 less for social services.
