KDSB Approves 2016 Budget; Municipal Levy Going Up

The municipal share for services provided by the Kenora District Services Board is going up 2.6%.

Local communities are now being asked to pay $429,000 more.

The increase was included in the passing of the 2016 budget.

Operating costs have come in at $39.25-million budget, up 1.96% from last year.

Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall notes they are making significant investments in a number of programs.

The KDSB is spending $750,000 on additional housing development.

Wall says they are also providing additional resources to get people off Ontario Works and finding them employment.

He adds another key component of the budget is restructuring their EMS service and ensuring they are keeping up with an increase in call volume.

Wall notes the KDSB is also taking steps to ensure emergency shelters are self-sufficient and have the financial resources needed to operate without going year-to-year.

He they will be working with the province on some key pilot projects to reduce the number of individuals who rely on emergency shelters.
