Finally some progress in the on-going dispute over non-urgent land ambulance patient transfers.
The Kenora District Services Board Chair Barry Baltesson says a study involving hospitals, ORNGE and the Rainy-River District Social Services Area Board should be completed next month.
He says they don’t want to negotiate through the public, but they will be sitting down with their partners and coming up with a solution.
However, Baltesson adds they’re making progress with discussions.
Chief Administrative Officer Dan McNeil says at the end of the study, there will be a comprehensive solution that will be accepted by all of the parities and hospitals and will be recognized through the Ministry of Health that there needs to be financial assistance.
Under provincial law the request to respond to a cardiac call is 6-minutes and McNeil notes that’s impossible with their ambulances are tied up with a non-urgent transfer.
