A Dryden based organization that focuses on the delivery of clean drinking water and training is applauding a federal investment to end boil water advisories on area First Nations.
Geordi Kakepetum is the chief executive director of Keewaytinook Okimakanak and says committed funds support the work they are currently doing under their Safe Water project.
Kakepetum says the government has recognized one of their greatest needs by investing $1.8-billion to build and maintain First Nations water infrastructure, $141-million to improve on-reserve water monitoring and $15-million to launch a pilot employment training program.
He stresses support is needed to provide training and operational assistance to water plant operators.
Kakepetum adds they will continue to work with area communities to ensure First Nations have access to safe, clean drinking water.
