Kenora Candidates Address FedNor

This week, CKDR is taking a look at the Federal election and the important issues impacting the Kenora Riding.
Today we ask the candidates to outline there stance on FedNor.
Tania Cameron of the NDP says her party would make it a stand-alone agency.
Cameron says they would invest $50-million annually in FedNor over the next 4 years.
Liberal Roger Valley also says FedNor should be a stand-alone Agency.
Valley says it needs solid core funding that can reflect the needs of Northern Ontario.
He notes there could also be some small policy changes to support for-profit businesses.
Conservative Greg Rickford says FedNor has been a huge benefit for Northern Ontario and a model for other Canadian organizations.
Rickford notes the Government was set to increase investments by $4-million in the last Federal budget.
Independent Kelvin Chicago-Boucher says FedNor gives away money freely to people who don’t really need it, noting its not what you know, but who you know.
He points to funding to Lac Des Mille Lacs First Nation, which he says was just thrown out the door with no none held accountable.
Green candidate Mike Schwindt supports FedNor, but would also like to introduce a Carbon Tax.
He says that would spur growth and new industry in Northwestern Ontario.
Election day is Monday.
