The Kenora Catholic District School Board is scoring higher than the provincial average in Ontario wide elementary school reading, writing and math assesments.
72% of grade 3 students are reading at the provincial standard. The Catholic Board scored high marks in writing with 66% of Grade 3 students achieving the provincial standard. In Math, 78% hit the provincial target.
In Grade 6, 66% of students were able to score a level 3 or 4 in the reading assesment done last spring.
On the writing test 63% were at the provincial standard, and in math 68% achieved the provincial standard.
The scores were equally impressive in Grade 9 math. 47% of St. Thomas Aquinas applied students are at or above the provincial standard. The Provincial average for applied math students is 35%.
In the academic program, 68% of students scores were at or above the provincial standard, slightly less than the provincial average of 71%.
The Kenora Catholic Board feels a number of initiatives lead to the success of their students in elementary and secondary school.
