A free trade forestry deal has been signed between Canada and South Korea.
Natural Resources Minister Greg Rickford says the memorandum of understanding expands on the province’s recent announcement on 6-storey wood construction.
Rickford says the MOH possibly opens the door to the construction of wooden buildings of up to 18-floors.
He notes it will not only open the field abroad but will also create new opportunities here at home.
Rickford says Canada is the third largest supplier of forest product to Korea and stresses their goal is to be number one.
The Kenora MP adds the agreement allows us to provide technical and expertise in best forest fire practices.
He notes northwestern Ontario could reap the benefits of the deal.
