Pikangikum is officially on the grid.
Kenora MP Bob Nault attended a community celebration yesterday to mark the connection to the Ontario power grid with a newly completed transmission line.
Nault says today’s announcement is a part of a bigger operation.
“This is the first phase of the bigger project we announced last March in 2018 for the 1.6 billion dollar connection to all of 17 communities that are going to be connected over the next number of years, starting with this project.”
Nault says the power line will end the community’s dependence on diesel and provide clean, safe and reliable energy.
