Kenora MP Greg Rickford is in Kapuskasing today on behalf of the Prime Minister overseeing the evacuation of flood victims from Kashechewan First Nation.
900-people have been forced from their home and have been relocated to Thunder Bay, Kapuskasing and Cornwall.
Rickford says it’s been a fairly smooth transition.
Rickford adds he’s working very closely with the leaders of both communities.
He says it’s not yet known how long the evacuation order will remain in place.
Rickford notes northern municipalities are well positioned to host evacuees.
He notes the Feds will ensure that medical issues, schooling and activities for youth are all addressed if the evacuation lasts for an extended period of time.
