Kenora MP Reacts To CEP Comments

Kenora MP Greg Rickford is firing back following comments made by Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union local rep Stephen Boon.
Boon is upset that Rickford supported Bill C-377, legislation that would require transparency for labour organizations.
Rickford says Boon’s comments were out of line and notes he should have done some homework.
Rickford says he had serious concerns about the private members bill from the start.
He notes he consulted with constituents, union members and others to see what changes they wanted to see.
Rickford says one of the groups he worked closely with was the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.
Conservative MP Russ Hiebert brought forward the private members bill and Rickford says he spoke with Hiebert about those concerns.
Rickford notes the necessary changes were made.
He believes the Bill represented the transparency that all union members and Canadians could accept.
Rickford says union members should be aware of what union executives are doing with their dues.
Rickford notes Boon never approached him about C-377 and is questioning the timing of the comments.
He goes on to say that he doesn’t support the amendments that were made at the Senate level.
The bill will be back in the House of Commons for debate this fall.
